Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â Five different Condors scored goals during the second period, as Bakersfield defeated the Fresno Falcons 5-2 in preseason action at Centennial Garden on Saturday night. The attendance was 4,050.
The first period was a spirited affair, with neither team able to take the advantage on the scoreboard. Jordan Roach engaged in fisticuffs for the Condors with rookie counterpart Justin Barauskas less than five minutes in. Big hitting and three Falcons power plays highlighted the action. Fresno outshot Bakersfield 12-10, but the score was 0-0 after 20 minutes.
The Condors took the lead in the second period. Second year winger Jason Ralph netted the first goal of the game at 3:33 of the middle frame. A backhanded feed from rookie Jason Jackman set it up. Rookie Billy Osipenko, who attended the Condors tryout camp in Las Vegas this summer, scored the second goal of the game, banging in a shot from close range. St. Pierre left the game just past the halfway point having stopped all 16 shots he faced. Defenseman Jon Sorg added to the lead with a goal at 12:24 to make it 3-0 Condors.
Fresno got on the board with a blast from the right wing boards by Joe Fredrick that beat goaltender Fredrik Jensen late in the second period. Bakersfield re-upped the lead to three goals just 1:33 later, though, as rookie blueliner Andre Allard snapped one home at 15:33. On the goal, Jackman picked up his third assist of the hockey game and Paul Rosebush picked up his second assist. The rough stuff continued, and a flurry of scuffles broke out with under four minutes to play in the second frame. When the dust cleared, two players had been ejected and 82 minutes in penalties were handed out. Nate Anderson got in the mix when he redirected a soft feed from Jamie Cooke past Gowan for the fifth Condors goal at 18:48. The second period ended with a 5-1 Bakersfield lead.
Fresno scored their second goal of the game at the 3:22 mark of the final frame to draw the score to 5-2, but would get no closer. The final shots were 34-26 in favor of the Condors, and they took the victory.
