Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League have announced the addition of defenseman Jonathan Sorg to the roster for the 2002-03 training camp, which begins today at Centennial Garden.

Sorg, 28, is just shy of being a veteran, with 318 career games under his belt. Last season, he registered 27 points (6g-21a) in 64 games with Indianapolis in the Central Hockey League. Before that, he spent four seasons in the ECHL, with Johnstown, Wheeling, Florida and Mobile (AL). Sorg also had a couple brief stints in the AHL, playing four games and totaling four penalty minutes. He has surpassed 20 points in each of the last three seasons, with career numbers in 1999-2000 with 33 points (11g-22a) and 141 PIM.

The physical defenseman stands at 6'2", 205lbs, and hails from Branchville, NJ. He has played five seasons in the pro ranks, following a collegiate career with the University of Vermont. In four seasons with the Catamounts, he played 133 games, tallying 11g-19a-30pts and served 107 minutes in penalties. He was an Honorable Mention All-Star during his senior season. He is one of seven blueliners in camp with the Condors this season that stands at 6'2", 200lbs or bigger.

"Jon is an experienced blueliner with great size," said Head Coach Paul Kelly. "I've been speaking with him all summer, and I'm glad we were able to work something out. He has a reputation in the pro ranks for being able to take care of his own end, and he certainly adds muscle back there."

The 2002-03 season opener is just 15 days away with the Bakersfield Condors hosting the reigning Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons at Centennial Garden on Saturday, October 12th. Group outings and season tickets are now available, with packages starting as low as $42.
