Bakersfield Condors News Release
CONDORSTOWN, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (5-8-1-2, 13pts) battled back from two deficits against the first place Ontario Reign (11-4-0-0, 22pts), but fell 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night at Rabobank Arena.
Condors F Peter Boyd gave the home team the early lead with his third of the season just 2:15 into the game, burying a feed from F David Toews. The Reign bounced back with a pair of goals before the midway point of the first to take the lead. F Jason Beaman and LW Derek Couture both beat Condors G Brian Stewart to make it 2-1 through the first.
Just 1:28 into the second the Condors tied it up 2-2, with C Levi Nelson firing home a wrist shot from the right wing corner for his 5th of the season. F Kyle Kraemer responded later in the period, just seconds after a Reign power play expired, to regain the lead for Ontario. They held the shot lead, 20-13, and maintained the 3-2 advantage through two periods.
Bakersfield continued battling into the third frame, and tied it up 3-3 at 7:34. F Jacob Lagace hammered in a centering feed from behind the net from F Tyler Brenner to get the equalizer. Stewart kept it tied with 10 saves in the period, including a dramatic glove save on Ontario's resident NHLer RW Devin Setoguchi at the buzzer, and the game headed into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the Condors went to the shootout for the sixth time this season. The Reign scored twice in the shootout, while only Boyd lit the lamp, and the Condors fell 4-3.
