Bulls Complete Improbable Comeback, Stun Grizzlies, 4-3, in Shootout

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The San Francisco Bulls used some late-game heroics from Justin Bowers, Dean Ouellet and Sacha Guimond to stun the Utah Grizzlies, 4-3 in a shootout, Sunday at the Cow Palace. Bowers scored with no time on the clock in regulation to send the game into extra time. In the shootout, Guimond extended it in the fifth round, and Ouellet won it in the sixth round, giving the Bulls two wins in three games over the weekend at home. Thomas Heemskerk earned his fourth win of the season, stopping 29 shots.

The Bulls jumped out to an early lead as Kris Belan scored his third goal of the season at 2:57 of the first period. The goal was assisted by newly assigned Andrew Crescenzi and Jamie Devane. Utah however was able to level the score at one on a goal scored by Mitch Wahl at 11:27. The goal was assisted by Kory Falite and Gaelan Patterson.

There was no scoring during the second period as San Jose Sharks prospect goaltender Thomas Heemskerk and Utah's goaltender Grant Rollheiser stood tall for their respective teams. The Bulls out-shot Utah in the period 11-8.

In the third period, Bryan Cameron and Riley Armstrong scored goals at 8:24 and 17:14 to give Utah a two-goal advantage. The Bulls responded quickly though as Peter Sivak scored his third goal of the season 43 seconds later on a rebound off of Bowers' shot. The goal was also assisted by Guimond. The Bulls dramatically tied the game with no time on the clock as Bowers re-directed home a Guimond shot. Mikael Tam also added a helper on the buzzer-beating tally.

Following a scoreless overtime that included one shot, the game went into a shootout. In the skills competition, Ryan Howse, and Armstrong scored goals for the Grizzlies. The Bulls responded with goals from Sivak and Guimond. Ouellet had the game-deciding tally in the sixth round, putting the Bulls on top, 4-3.

The Bulls return to the road for a Tuesday matchup in Bakersfield against the Condors at 7 pm. On Friday, the Bulls host the Ontario Reign for a Food Drive and Player Tote Bag Giveaway, courtesy of Seton Medical Center. Bring a canned food item to the arena to receive a 2-for-1 coupon to the game. The first 1,000 fans, 13 and over, receive a player tote bag. On Saturday, it's a Toy Drive and Team Photo Giveaway, courtesy of the SF Firefighters Local 798. Bring in a new and unwrapped toy to the arena to receive a 2-for-1 coupon to the game. The first 5,000 fans in attendance receive a team poster. The puck drops at 7:15 on Friday and Saturday.
