KANSAS CITY - As the playoff race enters its final stretch, the Kansas City Comets host the rival Milwaukee Wave and the Ontario Fury Friday and Sunday, respectively, in a pair of postseason deciders. The Comets (8-7) enter the weekend three games behind fourth-place Baltimore and two behind fifth-place Harrisburg in the race for the fourth and final playoff berth.

If the playoff excitement isn't enough, the Comets are also hosting the celebrity and mascot games Friday and Sunday, respectively, as well. At halftime of the Wave contest, former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, New York Times Bestselling author Diana Kander, MTV's Wes Bergmann and HGTV's Tamara Day join several local radio and television personalities for the celebrity game.

Sunday, the mascots of the Kansas City Chiefs, Sporting KC, the University of Central Missouri and other local colleges, teams and organizations will duke it out at halftime of the Ontario bout.

The Comets enter the pivotal weekend having won three of their last four. The lone loss in that stretch was at the hands of Milwaukee, 12-5. Kansas City was on the back end of two games in three days for that loss, and this time they're on the front end.

The Comets have also been bolstered by the additions of Odaine Sinclair and Nick McDonald, as well as the maturation of the dynamic attacking tandem of Leo Gibson and Kevin Ellis, who have combined for 11 goals in the last four games.

The Wave (10-4) have also won three of their last four, their lone loss in that stretch coming to Harrisburg. Milwaukee is 3-1 against Kansas City this season, thanks in large part to Ian Bennett's 12 goals in the series.

Sunday's opponent is less familiar, but just as formidable, and it pits the league's top two scorers against one another. Ontario's Franck Tayou leads the MASL with 48 points, trailed closely by Leo Gibson's 45. Tayou leads the league in points, while Gibson is tied for the lead in assists.

The Comets and Fury haven't played since January, 2017, when Kansas City fell 5-2 at Ontario. The Fury (8-8) sit in fourth place in the Western Division.
