Comeback Kingfish: Kingfish Defeat Kalamazoo 8-7 in 10

Kalamazoo, Mich - The Kenosha Kingfish (3-1) defeated the Kalamazoo Growlers (2-2) 8-7 (10 innings) at Homer Stryker Field on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Looking to salvage the split, Kalamazoo struck first in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead which held until the third inning. In the third inning, Casey O'Laughlin (Azusa Pacific) tripled down the right field line scoring McKay Barney (Washington) to tie the game. Sean Tillmon (Concordia-Wisconsin) then drove in O'Laughlin to give the Kingfish the 2-1 lead.

Kalamazoo's bats came alive in the fourth where they scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Kenosha was able to get one of those back in the top of the fifth courtesy of a Henry Kusiak (Missouri Southern) sacrifice fly that scored Barney to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Following a two-run seventh and a run in the eighth for Kalamazoo, Kenosha was down three in the ninth. With the bases loaded, Sam Beers (Concordia-Wisconsin) singled, scoring O'Laughlin and Kusiak to cut the deficit to 7-6. Josh Leslie followed later in the inning with an RBI single that scored Tillmon to tie the game and force extra innings.

In the tenth, Kusiak drove in Barney with two outs in the inning to give the Kingfish the 8-7 lead. Kalamazoo was unable to respond in the bottom half as the Kingfish took the comeback victory.

On the mound, Kingfish starter Trent Turzenski (Valparaiso) threw four innings giving up four runs. Hayden Fox (UW Whitewater) threw three innings of two run ball. Randon Dauman (St. Louis) got the win pitching two innings and giving up only one run. Mitch Waletzki (Minnesota-Duluth) picked up the save in the tenth, giving up zero runs and striking out one.

Kenosha will take on Traverse City at home on Friday, June 4 at 6:05 p.m.
