June 3, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Bismarck Larks News Release
The Larks opened up their two game series against the Duluth Huskies with a 3-2 win in ten innings.
Pitching started out as the big story as Larks starter Jacob Wesselmann went five innings only allowing two runs. The righty showed command of all of his pitches with seven strikeouts two his name, all of which came in his first three innings of work.
Both offenses were stagnant for a large portion of the game, until Larks left fielder, Khalid Collymore, became the hero with a walk-off single into center for the Fetzer Electric Play of The Game.
"A lot of guys don't really know me well yet and I have been getting challenged with a lot of fastballs," said Collymore. "I was thinking the same thing in the 10th."
Collymore has enjoyed his first three games in Bismarck. Making a great catch on opening night, playing hero with the walk-off hit, and experiencing the Bismarck fans.
"It just adds a whole new element, I'm used to quiet, dead focus on a game, the crowd is usually a non issue. This is something that I am getting used to, but something I also get to enjoy!"
Despite the loss, Duluth saw quality relief pitching. Righty Tyler Meyer was throwing gas all night, consistently hitting lower 90s and a couple times hitting 94 for the Metro-Area Ambulance Fastest Pitch.
The Larks close out their homestand on Thursday night, when they take on the Duluth Huskies for a 6:35 first pitch. Duluth will send Jonny Guzman to make his first start of the 2021 season, while righty Derek Shoen makes his pitching debut for the Larks.ÃÂ
