Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - The Modesto Nuts were just a few feet away from a walk-off win but instead fell 6-4 to the Visalia Rawhide on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
After Anthony Jimenez doubled home a run and Manny Pazos recorded a sac fly in the eighth, the Nuts (50-72; 20-32) put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the ninth against Breckin Williams (S, 1/1).
Joe Rizzo, representing the winning run, tattooed a ball to right that Anfernee Grier caught on the warning track to end the game.
The Nuts had taken the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Evan White connected on a two-run homer against Rawhide (61-61; 24-28) starter Connor Grey (W, 10-8). That was all Grey allowed over five innings allowing five hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Reggie McClain (L, 4-11) made the start for the Nuts. After three straight hits to open the game, McClain allowed a sac fly while he retired eleven in a row. Marcus Wilson tied the game in the fourth with a solo home run. Drew Ellis added to the Rawhide lead with a two-run homer in the sixth.
McClain worked six innings allowing six hits and four runs with five strikeouts and no walks.
The Nuts will try to avoid a three-game series sweep against the Rawhide on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
