Wichita Thunder News Release

RAPID CITY, SD- The Wichita Thunder lost 6-4 to the Rapid City Rush at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Tuesday night.

Derek LeBlanc's wrist shot at 5:20 in the first cleared just under the crossbar to give the Rush a 1-0 lead. Les Reaney scored at 8:20 to make it 2-0. Jamie Vanderveeken took a shot from the slot that squeezed through Scott Campbell's five-hole. Reaney came in from behind and tipped the puck over the goal line just before Campbell had a chance to knock the puck away. Derek Campbell scored on a one-timer on a feed from the corner by Colt King at 16:10 to give the Rush a 3-0 lead. Ian Keserich relieved Campbell after the Rush's third goal.

After the Rush took a 4-0 lead on Colt King's goal at 11:38 in the second, Wichita finally got on the board when Neil Clark used a backhand shot to beat Danny Battochio at 11:54. The Rush took a 5-1 lead shortly after Clark's goal, but Tomas Klempa potted a goal for a third straight game at 15:38 that triggered a run of three unanswered Thunder scores. Joel Hanson re-directed Chris McAllister's shot from the point at 17:51 in the second to cut the lead to 5-3.

Klempa scored his second of the night at 7:46 in the third, ripping a shot to the short side corner, and pulled the Thunder within one. Wichita had 38 seconds of a two-man advantage late in the period, but could not convert. Rapid City put the game away on an empty net goal from Rich Hansen with less than 30 seconds left.

Keserich stopped 33 of 35 in relief of Campbell. Battochio saved 14 of 18 in the win. Wichita was 0 for 5 on the power play while going 1 for 1 on the penalty kill. Prior to the game, the Thunder signed defenseman Joe Debello who made his debut. Klempa now has five goals in his last three games.
