SUGAR LAND, Texas - After the win in game two Wednesday night, the Skeeters took one step back with a 3-1 loss to the Revolution and starting pitcher Ryan Feierabend in game three Thursday night in front of 6019 fans at Constellation Field.
Will Startup (3-3) made his second spot-start for the Skeeters in game three against the Revs Thursday night. The lefty made head-way through the first four innings giving up just two hits while retiring eight straight at one point, but in the top of the fifth, York broke the game open with a three-run inning. Jeff Fiorentino walked with one out and Travis Scott walked two batters later with two outs to put runners on for Brandon Haveman. The left fielder singled over second into right bringing the first run in to put York ahead, 1-0.
Manager Gary Gaetti made a switch before the inning ended to relieve Startup with Pedro Liriano to get the final out of the inning, but Scott Grimes smacked a double into left center allowing both runners left on base to score and extend the lead to 3-0.
Ryan Feierabend (9-5) started the game for York looking for his first win against the Skeeters this season. The lefty worked his way into the eighth inning giving up five hits and only one walk without allowing a run.
R. J. Rodriguez came in to the close out the game in the bottom of the ninth, but the Skeeters made him sweat for it scoring one run off three hits before he struck out Octavio Martinez looking to end the game, 3-1. Manny Mejia brought Josh Pressley around with a RBI single after Pressley started the inning with a leadoff walk.
