
Lancaster Sets Record; Bluefish Fall

(Bridgeport, Conn. - Sept. 20, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (34-32, 65-70) were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (42-25, 87-48) in the regular season home finale, on Thursday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, by a score of 11-9. Bridgeport finishes with a 7-13 mark against Lancaster this season. The Bluefish now trail Southern Maryland by two and a half games in the Second Half Liberty Division standings with the Blue Crabs magic number now resting at one. In the process, the Barnstormers set the record for most Atlantic League victories in one season. The team surpassed the 2009 Somerset Patriots team that had 86 wins.
Bridgeport scored six runs from the fourth through the sixth innings to take an 8-7 lead before Lancaster scored two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth. The home team pushed across one run in the ninth.
Bluefish hitter, Prentice Redman, had three hits and drove in two runners on the night. Luis Figueroa, Joey Gathright, and Eddie Rogers each contributed two hits on the night for the home team with Figueroa driving in two runners. Rogers and Kennard Jones came to the plate twice on the evening for the Bluefish. Luis Rodriguez contributed one hit, one run and drove in a runner.
Blake Gailen collected three hits for the winning team while scoring three times and driving in two. Travis Denker had a three-run blast in the first inning and Tommy Everidge brought in three runners while picking up two hits. Gilberto Mejia, Fehlandt Lentini, and Ryan Harvey drove in the other runs. Adam Godwin and Bridger Hunt produced two hits and scored twice on the night.
Bridgeport starter, Gilbert De La Vara did not factor in the decision as the southpaw surrendered seven runs on eight hits while fanning four in four-and-two-thirds frames. Four relievers combined for the final four-and-one-third innings of work with Pat Bresnahan (1-1) suffering the loss. The tandem allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Lancaster starter, J.D. Durbin, was not involved in the decision either as Bridgeport put together five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. Five relievers completed the rest of the game with Joe Bateman (1-2) as the winning pitcher and the 33rd save credited to Tim Hamulack. The bullpen agave up four runs (one earned) on six hits and one walks while fanning seven.
Bridgeport starts the final regular season series on the road against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch is at 7:05. The game can be found on bridgeportbluefish.com. Bridgeport will send righthander Brad Thompson (5-5, 3.38 ERA) to the hill against Somerset righthanded hurler Derell McCall (9-6, 4.71 ERA).
