Comeback Cougars Beat Beloit
August 31, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill.- Completing their 33rd comeback victory of the season, the Kane County Cougars (43-20, 79-52) dropped their magic number for the Western Division championship down to four with the 7-6 win over the Beloit Snappers (27-35, 53-79) from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark Monday evening.
Cody Regis provided game-tying punches twice as he singled home Colin Bray to knot the game at one in the first inning.
Two frames later, Beloit retook the advantage scoring three runs off of Cougars' starter Brad Keller. Keller provided one of the biggest outs in the following frame as he got James Harris to bounce into an inning ending fielder's choice with the bases loaded. The play kept the Cougars' deficit to three runs and allowed the offense to battle in the bottom of the frame.
After Stryker Trahan led off the fourth with a walk, Joe Munoz launched a two-run homer over the left field wall. Munoz's seventh homer of the year brought the Cougars within one run, as they later tied it on a throwing error by the Snappers' catcher.
The Snappers took their third different lead of the game in the sixth and the Cougars quickly evened again. Regis tied the game again as he doubled home Bray for a 5-5 score. After a pitching change, Ryan Gorton took over for Lee Sosa (0-2) and nearly escaped the jam until Munoz lifted a two-run single for the Cougars' first lead of the series.
Jency Solis (6-1) was in line for the win despite giving up a run in the sixth and the Cougars' bullpen took over afterwards. Jose Martinez and Chris Oliver each picked up holds, as Beloit threatened in each inning. Bray's impressive diving catch in right center field saved a run in the seventh and the Snappers came within one run on Harris' RBI double in the eighth before Harris was thrown out at third.
Zac Curtis took the mound in the ninth inning and struck out the side around a one-out single for his Midwest League leading 31st save of the season.
The Cougars and Snappers will wrap up the season series on Tuesday. Brent Jones (2-5, 3.98) will take the mound against Beloit's Brett Graves (12-7, 5.02). First pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark is at 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
