Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-The Lake County Captains overcame a huge night by Dayton center fielder Narciso Crook to defeat the Dragons 9-5 on Monday. A crowd of 9,018 attended the game at Fifth Third Field.

Crook blasted two home runs to take over the team lead with eight homers on the year. Both of his home runs were two-run blasts to left field, and the second homer, in the seventh inning, gave the Dragons a brief 5-4 lead.

Lake County followed Crook's second home run with two runs in the eighth to take a 6-5 lead, and three more in the ninth to close out the scoring.

The Dragons attack also featured an inside-the-park home run by Shed Long in the third inning. Long drove a ball to the right-center field fence, just beyond the reach of diving right fielder Silento Sayles. The ball rolled to the fence and before the Captains could return the ball to the infield, Long circled the bases and scored without a play at the plate. Long's home run, his fourth of the season, gave the Dragons a 3-0 lead at the time and came after Crook had belted a two-run homer in the second.

Despite the three Dayton home runs, it was not a good defensive night for the Dragons. They matched a season-high with five errors, leading to five unearned runs. Four of the errors came on throws. Dragons shortstop Luis Gonzalez committed three errors, and two different Dragons pitchers had throwing errors on bunt plays. All nine Lake County runs came in innings when the Dragons committed errors.

Dragons starting pitcher Wyatt Strahan was not involved in the decision. He worked five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Strahan's earned run average jumped two points to 2.80, allowing him to remain among the Midwest League leaders. Dayton's Tyler Mahle leads the league in ERA, and four Dragons starters rank among the top 10.

Dragons reliever Conor Krauss (3-3) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs (only one earned) on three hits over the final inning and two-thirds.

The Dragons finished with seven hits. Crook's two-homer game was the fifth by a Dragons player this season and the second in three days. Long's inside-the-park home run was the second of the season for the Dragons after not hitting one over the previous three seasons.

The Dragons (29-33 in the second half; 68-64 overall) will host the Captains (32-31, 68-63) in the last game of the three-game series on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Tejay Antone (6-9, 2.90) will start for Dayton against Lake County's Jordan Milbrath (6-10, 4.86).

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
