Comeback Complete in Extra Innings Win

Auburn, NY - Despite trailing 5-1 after three innings, the Auburn Doubledays battled back. Three runs in the sixth followed by another in the seventh, tied the game, forcing extra innings. In the tenth, the Doubledays would ultimately prevail, defeating the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 6-5.
With the win, Auburn now sits two and one-half games up on Williamsport and four games up on Mahoning Valley for first place in the New York-Penn League's Pinckney Division.
Things started off well for the Auburn Doubledays on Wednesday night with Russell Moldenhauer slugging a solo home run of the scoreboard in right-centerfield in the top of the second, putting Auburn up an early run. But Mahoning Valley quickly answered, scoring three in the bottom half, keyed by back-to-back home runs by Todd Hankins and Alex Lavisky that put the Scrappers ahead 3-1.
Mahoning Valley added two more runs in the third, taking advantage of a throwing error by Justin Miller to score a pair, increasing their lead to four.
Then, the Doubledays mounted a comeback.
In the top of the sixth, Matt Skole walked and Angelberth Montilla singled, spelling the end of the night for Scrappers' starter Joseph Colon. Grant Sides replaced Colon, but was greeted rudely by Hendry Jimenez. Hendry launched his fourth home run of the season over the wall in right-field, cutting the deficit for Auburn to 5-4.
The next inning, Auburn tied the game as Matt Skole scored from first base on a double by Justin Miller and throwing error by Scrappers right fielder, Aaron Siliga.
Chad Jenkins and Colin Bates combined to keep the game tied at five until the tenth inning.
In the top of the tenth, Auburn used a lead off hit-batsman to give them the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Hendry Jimenez. Aaron Barrett pitched a scoreless bottom of the tenth and the Doubledays picked up the win.
Auburn will try to win the series on Thursday night when they meet the Scrappers for the final time in 2011. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm, and fans are invited to listen to the live play-by-play on 89.1 FM in Auburn or at www.auburndoubledays.com.
