Jamestown Jammers News Release
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - After struggling offensively for the ï¬Ârst seven games of the 12-game road odyssey, the Jamestown Jammers erupted on Thursday night to beat the State College Spikes, 11-4, at Medlar Park at Lubrano Field.
The Jammers scored 11 runs on 13 hits and capitalized on ï¬Âve State College errors to score in six different innings and get back to a game under .500 at 32-33. The win also keeps the Jammers postseason hopes alive, but the team has no margin for error with just 10 games remaining.
Terrence Dayleg snapped out of his recent slump with three hits, including a triple, a RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Goetz and Marquise Cooper both had two-run homers, while Eddie Rodriguez and Austin Barnes contributed a pair of hits for the victors.
The Spikes manufactured a run in the ï¬Ârst inning to take an early advantage, but Jamestown stormed back with four runs in the second inning to take a lead the team would not relinquish.
Dayleg reached on an error and Viosergy Rosa singled to put the ï¬Ârst two runners on base. Rodriguez then roped a two-run double to put the purple and green in front before Goetz hit the team's ï¬Ârst homer in seven games over the fence in right to bring the score to 4-1.
In the third, State College got a run back; however, Jamestown had another instant answer as Cooper roped his two-run blast over the left ï¬Âeld fence to extend the lead to four.
The Spikes plated another run in the bottom half of the inning, but Josh Adams doubled in the ï¬Âfth and scored on a passed ball to keep the Jamestown cushion at four.
The purple and green added insurance runs in the sixth on a passed ball and a Rosa sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây in the seventh before capping the scoring with two runs in the eighth.
In the visitor's half, the Jammers loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a ï¬Âelding error before Dayleg ripped a RBI single to center and another ï¬Âelding error plated a second runner as the Jammers broke double digits for the ï¬Ârst time since Aug. 2.
Helpi Reyes earned his ï¬Ârst win of the season after pitching ï¬Âve innings, striking out four, giving up two earned runs and walking three.
Ryan Hafner was the losing pitcher for the Spikes. He gave up six runs - only three earned - in four innings to fall to 2-5 on the season.
Offensively, Alex Fuselier had a pair of hits, and Chris Lashmet and Derek Trent both had one double.
The Jammers now head to Mahoning Valley for three games to wrap up the 12-game road trip before returning to Diethrick Park to face Auburn Monday.
