Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

ABERDEEN, MD - The Connecticut Tigers used a dominating performance at the plate to trump the Aberdeen IronBirds 10-2 on Thursday night at Ripken Stadium.

The win, combined with a Vermont loss this evening, moves Connecticut within a half game of the division-leading Lake Monsters, as the two teams will face off five times over the next four days.

The Tigers leaped in front early on a two-run homer from Tyler Collins in the first inning, his team-leading seventh shot of the season. Connecticut kept the foot on the pedal by scoring a run in the second, another in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 6-0.

They would add four more runs in the game to go up 10-0, before Aberdeen scored two runs in the ninth to erase the shutout.

Matt Crouse won his fourth start in a row by tossing six shutout innings to improve to 5-1 on the year. Jose Mota dropped to 1-3, after surrendering six runs on eleven hits through just four innings of work.

After a big night at the plate yesterday, Eugenio Suarez continued his hot streak, going 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Collins finished the night 2-for-6 with the homer and four RBI's. Javier Azcona went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI's, to go along with an incredible play at the shortstop position to end the game. He went ranging in the hole, made a backhanded grab on the outfield grass and made a jump throw to first to retire the last out.

The Tigers will now head home for a pivotal two-game series with the division-leading Vermont Lake Monsters. First pitch for tomorrow night is set for 7:05 PM.
