Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO- The Lubbock Cotton Kings defeated the Colorado Eagles Saturday night 4-3 at the 85th consecutive sellout at the Budweiser Events Center. The game marked the first time that the Eagles have lost in regulation when leading after two periods. Bobby Brown and Kyle Nosan provided all of the offense for the Kings with two goals apiece and rookie goaltender Brad Buss stopped 25 of 28 shots for Lubbock. Three different Eagles scored as their record fell to 32-10-5 with 69 points, but they still hold a commanding 11-point lead over the next closest team in the Northwest Division.

Lubbock's Kyle Nosan gave the visiting team a 1-0 lead 3:04 into the first period on a slapshot from just inside the blue line that handcuffed Paulo Colaiacovo. Colorado quickly tied the game on a great backhand pass from Les Borsheim to Scott Polaski only 17 seconds later. The goal was Polaski's third goal in as many games and marked the fourth straight game at the Budweiser Events Center in which he has scored. Lubbock continued their pressure in the first period out shooting Colorado 16-6 but the score remained tied 1-1.

The Cotton Kings again jumped out to a lead early in the period when Bobby Brown converted only 21 seconds into the second period. The Eagles answered on a goal that bounced off the back of Fraser Filipic from an Aaron Grosul shot and into the net, a power play goal tying the game at two. Garrett Larson gave the Eagles their first lead of the game when he banged in a second chance at the 12:46 mark of the period for his 18th goal of the season. Colorado held the 3-2 lead going into the second intermission but were still being out shot 23-19.

The third period started promising for Colorado as they earned a power play opportunity seven minutes into the final frame, but it was the Cotton Kings that tied the game on a shorthanded goal by Bobby Brown. It marked the third straight game that Lubbock as tallied a shorty and it shifted the momentum in the visitors favor. Less than two minutes later, Kyle Nosan earned the game-winning goal when he put a wrist shot on through traffic and beat Colaiacovo for his second goal of the game. The Eagles are now 23-1-2 when leading after two periods of play. The team has somewhat of an extended break and will get some rest after playing with a short bench. Colorado doesn't play again until next Friday, February 17 against the Austin Ice Bats in Austin, Texas, and then they face the same Lubbock Cotton Kings the following day at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
