
Hounds lose to Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, OK. - The Youngstown SteelHounds (17-26-2) road winning streak came to an end on Saturday night as they fell 4-3 to the Oklahoma City Blazers (28-18-2) as former Hound Scott Barnes scored a pair including the game winner. Joey Sewell scored twice for the SteelHounds but it wasn't enough as Sean Connors was outstanding in net making 31 saves in the game earning his league-leading 22nd victory of the season.
Youngstown entered the game after winning back-to-back road games for the first time this season and after a 7-4 victory in Memphis last night which was one of their most impressive games of the season.
On Saturday, the Hounds followed up by putting in a great effort but falling short. In the first period, Oklahoma City jumped out with a lot of energy and scored the first two goals of the game. The first came off the stick of Jared Dumba on a rebound in front of the net. For Dumba, it was his 20th goal of the season assisted by Ryan Johnston and Gio Flamminio at the 10:40 mark of the period. Just 28 seconds later, the Blazers picked off a an errant pass creating a 2-on-1 with Kahlil Thomas finding former SteelHound Scott Barnes who scored his 17th goal of the season assisted by Thomas and Mike Beausoleil, his 60th point. Youngstown came back with several offensive chances in the next five minutes and finally broke through on a shot by Joey Sewell that beat CHL All-Star Sean Connors for his sixth goal of the season and fourth in four games with Youngstown. Jeff Christian and Kelly Sickavish were credited with the assists at the 16:36 mark. The Blazers took 20 shots, the most in a period given up this year by the Hounds, compared to 11 for Younsgtown. David St. Germain stopped 18 shots in the period.
In the second period, the Blazers used hard work behind the net to create a scoring chance with Aaron Goldade capitalizing by scoring his second goal of the season assisted by Justin Chwedoruk and Joe Dustin at the 3:59 mark. The Hounds got back into the game once again on the power play as Sewell scored his second of the night on a rebound in the goal crease. Christian and J.R. Holmes drew the assists at the 9:31 mark of the period making the score 3-2. Youngstown outshot the Blazers 13-12 in the period as St. Germain had 29 saves through two periods.
The SteelHounds came out with a mission in the third period and tied the game on J.F. Labarre's sixth goal of the season assisted by Jonathan Gagnon at the 2:48 mark of the period tying the game at three goals apiece. The Blazers responded on a great individual effort by Thomas who was laying on the ice as he pushed a pass to Barnes in front of the net who scored his second of the night and 18th of the season at the 8:29 mark.. Youngstown battled all the way to the wire but were unable to get back to even as they fell 4-3.
The final shots on goal favored Oklahoma City 46-34 as St. Germain made 42 saves and Connors earned the victory turning aside 31 shots.
The road trip continues for the Hounds tomorrow afternoon with a 5:00 PM (EST) face-off versus the Austin Ice Bats.
Game Notes: Jeff Christian extended his point streak to five straight games (3-6=9) with a first period assist. Chris Richards second period assist extended his point streak to five straight games (1-7=8). Joey Sewell has five goals in four games with the SteelHounds. The Hounds have scored a power play goal in six straight games (9 for 40). Mario Chinelli's goal streak ends at four straight games.
