Strong second and third periods lead Odessa past RiverKings

SOUTHAVEN --- The Odessa Jackalopes scored three goals in the second period and two in the third to defeat the Memphis RiverKings 6-2 Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Jeff Ewasko scored twice and goalie Derek Dolson made 44 saves to help the Jackalopes hand the RiverKings their third straight defeat. Ryan Campbell and Paul McBrien scored for Memphis in their only game this season with the number two team in the Southern Conference.

After Odessa made it 1-0 on a John Kozoriz goal 3:49 into the game, Campbell scored his third shorthanded goal and his 16th overall of the season with just under two minutes remaining in the first period. Odessa came back with three in the second to open up a 4-2 lead on their way to the 6-2 final.

Guy St. Vincent made his first start in the nets for Memphis since January 28 and took the loss to fall to 8-12-1. Dolson, who serves as the back-up to all-star Mike Gorman, played in just his 13th game and pick up the victory.

The RiverKings also learned that the injury all-star forward Don Parsons suffered in Wednesday's game at Austin is a hair-line fracture of his collarbone and he will be out at least three weeks.

The RiverKings are off until Thursday when the Wichita Thunder make their only visit this season to the DCC. Game time is set for 7:05.
