Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves lost game one of a four game series with the Columbus Catfish 18-7 in front of a sellout crowd of 5,105 at State Mutual Stadium.

The Braves got things started in the first inning. Maximiliano Ramirez singled to left, then scored on an Isaiah Ka'aihue two run bomb, giving the Braves an early lead of 2-0. The Catfish put a run on the board in the top of the second when Jason Mooneyham doubled, moved to third on a Drew Locke sacrifice fly, and scored on a single by David Sutherland. In the fifth the Braves added three more runs before a forty-five minute rain delay in the sixth would sap their momentum. The seventh inning proved to be the undoing of the Braves, as thirteen runs crossed the plate aided by a sloppy Braves defense. The Catfish scoring was highlighted by a two run homer off the bat of Russ Mitchell, a two RBI single from David Sutherland, and a two RBI double off the bat of Sergio Pedroza. Final score Columbus 18, Rome 7.

Rome reliever Adam Stanley takes the loss (0-3) after pitching a third of the seventh inning and giving up seven earned runs. Columbus reliever Jordan Pratt records the win (3-2), going three innings striking out four.

Rome and Columbus will play game two of the series tomorrow at two o'clock. Tomorrow is Rome News-Tribune Family Day, with special giveaways at the gate. For ticket information call the Braves ticket office at 706-378-5144.
