Lake County Captains News Release
(Greensboro, NC)--The Lake County Captains snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers Saturday night at First Horizon Park.
The win also broke a six-game road losing streak for the Captains (23-26).
Four Captains pitchers combined to limit the Grasshoppers to four hits in the game. Lefty Tom Cowley started and threw four hitless innings before reaching his 65-pitch limit. Mike Finocchi (4-0) came on in relief and had two outs in the bottom of the sixth before yielding an infield single to Greg Burns to foil the no-hit bid.
The Captains built a 5-0 lead through six innings against Greensboro starter Ryan Tucker and reliever Rafael Galbizo. The Captains scored three runs on four hits in the third off Tucker (1-5). Chris De La Cruz had an RBI groundout and Matt Fornasiere and Josh Noviskey smacked back-to-back RBI doubles.
In the fifth, Fornasiere drove in De La Cruz with a single after De La Cruz doubled and took third on a throwing error. It was Fornasiere's first game back after missing 11 games with a twisted ankle.
Mike Conroy capped the scoring in the sixth with a solo homer off Galbizo.
The Grasshoppers got on the board in the sixth on an RBi double by Augustin Septimo. Then, in the ninth against Matt Davis, Brett Hayes stroked a three-run homer to pull the Grasshoppers to within 5-4. Davis, however, got a groundout and strikeout to end the game.
Dustin Roddy pitched two scoreless innings for the Captains in the seventh and eighth.
Game two of the series is Sunday at 5:00 P.M.
The Captains will return to Classic Park on Thursday night, June 1st against the West Virginia Power. On Friday, June 2nd, the first 2000 fans will receive a free Captains travel mug courtesy of Direct Energy. For tickets, call 440-954-WINS.
