COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC is set to host Mexican side CF Monterrey at Historic Crew Stadium in a nationally-televised 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals First Leg match tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28 [8:30 p.m. ET / FS2^, TUDN].

Crew SC secured a spot in the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals by defeating Nicaraguan club Real Esteli FC 5-0 on a two-leg aggregate score. The Black & Gold defeated Esteli 4-0 on the road (April 8), before winning 1-0 at Historic Crew Stadium (April 15). Tomorrow's match marks the third time that the Crew has reached the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League, as the Club reached the same stage during the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 editions of the tournament.

Earlier today Concacaf announced that video assistant referees (VAR) will be used for the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinal stage and for the remainder of the competition.

CF Monterrey is a four-time Concacaf Champions League winner, having won the 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2019 editions of the tournament. At the domestic level, Monterrey has won Liga MX on five occasions (México 1986, Clausura 2003, Apertura 2009, Apertura 2010, Apertura 2019) and Copa MX three times (1991-92, Apertura 2017, 2019-20). CF Monterrey reached the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League by defeating Club Atletico Pantoja (Dominican Republic) 6-1 on aggregate scoring over two legs.

The winner of the two legs of the Quarterfinals will be determined by aggregate scoring, with the second leg taking place at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, Mexico on Wednesday, May 5. Should Crew SC advance to the Semifinals of the tournament, it would mark the furthest the Club has reached in tournament history and would face the winner of the Quarterfinals matchup between Toronto FC (Canada) and Cruz Azul (Mexico) across two legs. The winner of the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League will secure a berth in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.
