Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (August 21, 2002) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) have re-signed right wings Matt Davidson & David Ling.

"Both players contributed valuable playing time in the NHL last season, as well as helping lead the Syracuse Crunch to the AHL's Central Division title," said Blue Jackets Executive Vice-President and Assistant General Manager Jim Clark. "Ling is a proven scorer at the AHL level who plays a lot bigger than his size indicates, while Davidson is a good skater who provides strong penalty killing on both levels. Each will have a legitimate opportunity to play games in the NHL this season."

Davidson, 25, played in 47 games with Syracuse last year, recording 9 goals, 11 assists and 64 penalty minutes. A native of Flin Flon, Manitoba, Davidson also appeared in 12 games with Columbus, tallying 3 points (1g, 2a), including his first NHL goal on November 2 against Edmonton. Originally drafted by Buffalo with their fifth pick, 94th overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Davidson was acquired by Columbus in a June 23, 2002 trade from the Buffalo Sabres.

Ling, 27, appeared in 71 games with the Crunch last season, recording 19 goals, 41 assists and a team leading 240 penalty minutes. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ling also played in four games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, recording seven penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Quebec with their ninth choice, 179th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Ling joined the Columbus organization as a free agent on July 10, 2001.

Tickets for the NHL Classic III, featuring the Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres, are currently on sale and are priced at $30 and $24. Children (12 and under) cost $24. Season ticket and partial plans are now available. All tickets and ticket plans may be purchased by calling the Crunch office at (315) 473-4444.
