Worcester IceCats News Release
Worcester, MA- Worcester IceCats General Manager John S. Ferguson today announced the 'Cats 2002 exhibition schedule with tune-ups at Fitchburg's Wallace Civic Center and at the New England Sports Center (NESC) in Marlboro. For the sixth straight season, proceeds from the Fitchburg exhibition will go to the Ali Pierce Memorial Fund at the UMass Cancer Center.
The Ali Pierce games began in 1996 when the avid youth hockey player was fighting to overcome a rare form of liver cancer. Sadly, a month after the '96 pre-season games, the 14 year old Princeton native lost her battle. To honor her memory, raise funds and awareness, the IceCats continue to play these games in her name.
Worcester begins the 2002-2003 exhibition season on the road with a tilt against the AHL's defending Eastern Conference Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Danbury, CT on Friday, September 27th. Worcester then travels to the Portland Ice Arena in Portland, Maine for a Saturday evening match against the Pirates. The IceCats home exhibition schedule begins on Sunday, September 29th in Fitchburg. The 'Cats will host Bridgeport at 6 PM at the Wallace Civic Center. Worcester continues their 'home' games with a Friday, October 4th engagement with the Albany River Rats. The Friday night faceoff at the New England Sports Center is slated for 7 PM. The IceCats wrap-up their exhibition slate with a final game on October 6th in Delmar, NY against the River Rats.
Tickets for the Wallace Civic Center exhibition are $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for students, children and seniors.
