BATS SHUTDOWN IN 8-0 LOSS TO MYRTLE BEACH: The Columbia Fireflies bats were shutdown for a third consecutive night, as the Fireflies lost 8-0 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Stadium Sunday. Columbia (7-14) was no-hit for the first time since Myrtle Beach (15-6) tossed a no-no at Segra Park against the Fireflies June 24, 2021. The Fireflies have been held to 10 hits in their last three games against Myrtle Beach and they have scored two runs in that time. It's the third time Columbia has been shut out in the first 21 games of the season. Matt Stil (L, 0-1) was charged for the loss, as he allowed one run in 2.1 innings. The righty was pulled after walking five hitters before the end of the third. The fourth was the break-through inning for the Pelicans. They scored half a dozen runs off Delvin Capellan, pushing his season ERA from a team-low 1.00 to 5.73 before he got the hook.

TEAM CLANK: Last night the Fireflies committed four errors at TicketReturn.com Field. Columbia leads Minor League Baseball with 45 errors in their first 21 games. The next closest teams is the Delmarva Shorebirds, who have committed 43 errors so far this season. Columbia also has the lowest fielding percentage in baseball, a mark of .942. Delmarva has the next lowest, a .944 clip.

NO RUNS, NO FUN: The Fireflies bats have been held in check over their last three games. The Fireflies have tallied 10 hits in their last 27 innings and they have only been able to score two runs in that stretch. The pitching staff has allowed 25 runs in that time.

NO-NO, NOT THE BIRDS: The Fireflies have seen three no-hitters since they came to the Soda City in 2016. They dished out the no-no in 2016, but since have been no-hit twice in as many years against the Mytle Beach Pelicans. The latter time was Sunday, when Walker Powell, Adam Laskey and Jake Reindl combined to no-hit the Fireflies. The first time was June 24, 2021 at Segra Park.

LONG TIME, NO SEE: The Fireflies are playing the Delmarva Shorebirds for the first time since the 2019 campaign. The two teams met in a three-game set at Segra Park from April 30-May 2. The Shorebirds, who finished with the best record in the South Atlantic League, swept the Fireflies. Overall, the Fireflies have won only seven of 18 contests against the Shorebirds, dating back to 2016.

A LONG WAY TO THE TOP...: If the Fireflies want to rock and roll, and clinch a first-half playoff berth, Myrtle Beach is the team to beat. The Pelicans hold a 15-6 record, which is eight games in front of the Fireflies after the first 21 games of the campaign.

SOMEBODY SAVE ME: Last night, Luis Barroso converted the first save opportunity of the season for the Columbia Fireflies. Barroso has also pitched the 10th inning in both extra innings games the Fireflies have been in this season.

CRAFTY CERANTOLA: Last night, the Fireflies starter, Eric Cerantola, continued his hot stretch, notching eight innings and 14 strikeouts while allowing just a pair of runs to score in his last two outings. The righty has seen his ERA decline from 10.80 to 4.76 during the stretch.
