San Angelo Colts News Release
DINBURG, Texas - The San Angelo Colts started their six-game road trip on a winning note Monday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Colts took a 5-0 lead after three innings, led the entire way, and took the series opener from the Edinburg Coyotes 8-2.
Tyrone Pendergrass jumpstarted the Colts (9-10), taking Coyotes starter Miguel Martinez (2-1) deep to begin the game, tallying his second homer of the season. Still in the first inning, Bryan Frichter hit his league-leading 17th double with one out, and later scored on an RBI single by Benny Craig.
In the second, Adam Miller doubled and scored on a two-out single to left field by Pendergrass. San Angelo grabbed a 5-0 lead in the third when Andres Rodriguez blasted his team-leading fifth homer of the year, a two-run shot.
All that offense was more than enough for Colts starter Logan Williamson (2-1), who threw seven dominant innings and allowed two runs, both of which were unearned because of two Colts' errors. In his longest outing of the season, the left-hander was perfect through the first three frames, and only surrendered three hits while striking out six and walking two.
The Colts added three more runs off reliever Clint Smith, making his Edinburg debut. The right-hander allowed a run in the sixth on a RBI fielder's choice by Miller and two more in the seventh when Frichter drove home a run with a triple, then scored on a groundout by Rodriguez.
Right-handed pitcher Miliade Venas, who was traded from the Coyotes to the Colts for future considerations earlier in the day, made his San Angelo debut, working a scoreless ninth to seal the win.
The Colts continue this three-game series in Edinburg with game two against the Coyotes at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colts then return to Foster Field on Sunday, June 8 to begin a nine-game homestand. The game that day, which begins at 5:05 p.m., will feature Weiner Dog Races, sponsored by Yuppie Puppy.
