Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

San Angelo, Texas---Five Colts had multi-hit games and starting pitcher Chandler Barnard needed 99 pitches to get through seven innings, as San Angelo beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 16-4 Friday night at Foster Field.

It looked like it might be a long night for Barnard in the top of the first inning, when Edinburg catcher Osiel Flores (3) hit a three-run homer to put the Roadrunners on top 3-0. San Angelo tied it up with three straight doubles to start the bottom of the first, including a hit in his 23rd straight game for center fielder Ronnie Gaines to bring him within eight games of tying the independent league record for a hitting streak to start a season.

The Colts never really looked back, as they scored five runs in the second inning capped off by a Jon Edwards (4) home run that made it 8-3. Edinburg starter Aaron Guerra was chased from the game after giving up eight earned runs in two innings.

Barnard settled down after the first, allowing just one run the rest of the way and recording six strikeouts on the night. With the win he moved into sole-possession of second place on the Colts all-time wins list with 20. He was helped out by single runs in the fourth and fifth, before the Colts broke out for four more runs in the sixth.

Barnard (3-1, 4.50) was the winner, as Guerra (3-2, 4.38), who was second in the North American league in ERA coming into the game, took the loss. The series finale is Saturday night at Foster Field at 7:05 PM.
