Capitals defeat Outlaws

EDMONTON - Edmonton's six-run fourth inning buried Chico, as the Capitals defeated the Outlaws 12-5 in the rubber game of a three-game series at Telus Field.

Edmonton held a 3-2 lead after three and a half innings before they broke it open against Chico starter Travis Kane (1-2). Kane's mound opponent Alexander Francisco (2-1) started the scoring with an RBI single. Steve Brown, who burned Chico throughout the series, followed with a two-run double. Matt Rogelstad singled home a run, and Todd Linden put an exclamation point on the inning with a two-run homer.

Kane took the loss for Chico, lasting four innings and surrendering nine hits and nine runs. The righty walked three and struck out five. Francisco picked up the win for the Caps, allowing nine hits and two runs, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Jason Roenicke allowed three earned runs in two innings out of the pen for the Outlaws. Alex Foltz and Omar Aguilar each pitched an inning of shutout relief.

Darrick Hale had a great day at the plate for Chico, with two triples, a single, walk, and three runs scored. Chris Lubanski and Jake Rife had two hits apiece and an RBI. Adam Buschini launched his team-leading fourth home run, a two-run shot in the seventh.

Chico completes its 19 game road trip to open the season at 7-12. The Outlaws return home for the opener at Nettleton Stadium on Saturday night at 6:30 against the Calgary Vipers. The action can be heard on the Outlaws Baseball Network on chicooutlaws.com.
