Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Lincoln, Nebraska - Jason Colson hit two home runs and drove in four runs and Tanner Townsend added a home run and three runs batted in as the Gary SouthShore RailCats won their third straight game in defeating the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-2 in the first game of a three game series on Tuesday night.
Leading 2-0 after three innings, the RailCats enjoyed a six run fourth to take a commanding lead for starting pitcher Willie Glen, who earned his first Northern League victory. Glen worked the first six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while walking two and striking out nine in his third start with the RailCats.
Townsend's two-run home run in the third, his fourth of the season, gave the RailCats a 2-0 lead. Colson led off the fourth with a long home run to right as the first seven RailCats batters in the inning reached base safely. Alex Taylor had an RBI triple and Jay Pecci added an RBI double to key the six run rally.
Colson hit a two-run homer in the sixth to give him his second multi-home run game of the season.
The two clubs will meet again on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Greg Bruso (0-3, 2.68) will pitch for Gary against Lincoln's Michael Kesten (3-0, 4.19).
Notes: Townsend reached base four times in the game, going 3 for 4 with a hit batsman. The RailCats have scored at least 10 runs in two of their last three games. Steve Plucinski made his professional debut with a scoreless ninth for Gary. Plucinski pitched this spring at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. RailCats second baseman Curt Lee was a late scratch from the lineup due to flu symptoms.
