COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- John Hicks and Jabari Blash each homered in the Tacoma Rainiers 9-4 series-opening loss to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Security Service Field on Wednesday night.

Hicks was the first to go deep, delivering a solo shot in the third that cut a 2-0 deficit down to one run. Chris Taylor tied the score at 2-2 later in the frame after hitting into a double play that scored Daniel Paolini.

After the Sky Sox pulled ahead 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning, Jabari Blash belted a one-run home with one out in the top of the fourth - the outfielder's 15th of the season.

The Rainiers were limited to a total of five hits, including a 2-for-3 performance from the catcher Hicks. The shortstop Taylor tallied the team's only other extra-base hit after hitting a triple in the top of the sixth. Stefen Romero drove in Tacoma's fourth and final run when he hit a sacrifice fly later that inning.

Starter Adrian Sampson (1-3) surrendered eight runs, six earned, on nine hits through 3.1 innings. The Sammamish, WA native fanned two and walked one in his fourth turn in Tacoma's rotation.
