Salt Lake Splits Series with Omaha in Loss

SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 18) - Omaha scored runs in the first inning for the third consecutive day and never fell behind, beating Salt Lake 7-3 Tuesday night at Smith's Ballpark. Whit Merrifield and Reymond Fuentes reached with singles to begin the game coming around to score on a one-out single from Casey Kotchman to make it 2-0 after a half inning of play. Grant Green doubled to begin the Bees' first and came around to score on a groundout fielder's choice to make it 2-1, but that's as close as Salt Lake would get in the final game of the series as the Storm Chasers added two runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth and seventh.

Drew Rucinski (5-6) took the loss for Salt Lake, giving up five earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout and four walks in four innings of work. Alex Sanabia pitched two innings in relief and gave up an unearned run on two hits with two walks and one strikeout. Kurt Spomer also pitched two innings and allowed one earned run on two hits. Jeremy McBryde pitched a clean ninth with one strikeout. Collin Cowgill, with the Bees on rehab assignment, went 3-for-4 in the contest with a double and a run batted in, while Grant Green went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Kyle Kubitza added a hit with a run batted in and a run scored.
