Colorado Beats Wichita 4-2

LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles won their seventh straight game and 11th straight at home in a 4-2 win over the Wichita Thunder Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Four different Eagles scored including two players who had their first goals of the season. Les Borsheim and Fraser Filipic each had their first goals of the season and Chris Hartsburg and Ed McGrane rounded out the scoring for Colorado who finally got to play a game that was postponed on both Wednesday and Thursday due to weather conditions. Sebastien Laplante made 40 saves on 43 shots for Wichita and Marco Emond stopped 18 of 20 for the Eagles 18th win of the season. In the win, Colorado's head coach Chris Stewart earned a spot in the All-Star Game for having the Northern Conference's best record for the third straight season. The Eagles will play again tomorrow night at the Budweiser Events Center against the Rocky Mountain Rage, the puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. MST.

Riley Nelson and Chris Hartsburg hooked up again for a shorthanded goal early in the first period. Hartsburg left a drop pass for Nelson who beat Wichita goaltender Sebastien Laplante far post for his league-leading seventh shorthanded goal of the season. The Eagles kept the pressure on the Thunder for the remainder of the period and took a 2-0 lead on Les Borsheim's first goal of the season when he lifted in a rebound with just 37 seconds remaining in the period. Colorado out shot the Thunder 17-3 in the period and took the two-goal lead into the intermission.

The Eagles again out shot the Thunder in the second period 12-9, however each team managed a goal in the final three minutes. Ed McGrane scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 17:38 mark when he skated in alone against Laplante did not convert on his first chance, but wrapped the puck around with his backhand and shoved it into the net. Daniel Tetrault scored a power play goal with nine seconds remaining to get the Thunder on the board. After two periods, the Eagles had a 3-1 lead on the Thunder.

George Halkidis scored another Wichita power play goal in a scrum in front of the net to make it a one-goal game with 3:47 remaining in regulation. The Thunder pulled their goaltender late in the contest, but it was Eagles right winger Fraser Filipic that capped the game with an empty net goal, his first of the season. The Eagles more than doubled Wichita's shots on goal at 44-20 winning their seventh straight and 11th straight at the Budweiser Events Center. Final score: Eagles 4 - Wichita 2.
