
Bucks Beat Rayz In OT 5-4

LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks beat the Corpus Christi Rayz 5-4 in sudden death overtime on Friday night in front of 5,100 fans at the LEC. Defenseman Adam Rivet scored the game winner 4:01 into the overtime period as the Bucks increased their Southeast Division lead to three points. Laredo is 15-8-2, with a Southern Conference best 32 points. With the win Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski clinched the nod as the Southern Conference head coach at the CHL All-Star Game in January for the third time in five seasons. The Bucks quickly jumped on the Rayz. Just 56 seconds into the game Ladislav Kouba scooped up the loose puck and jammed it home for a 1-0 Laredo lead. It was the seventh of the season for Kouba. On the next shift forward Jeff Bes received a pass in the slot from forward Leo Thomas and scored his seventh of the season on a wrist shot at 1:12 to make it 2-0. The Rayz tied it with a flurry of their own. Forward Nicklas Lindberg tried to center a pass that deflected off a Bucks defenseman and into the net at 13:15 then forward Adam Powell hopped on a loose puck at the side of the net and fired it into the back of the cage at 14:21.
In the second once again the Bucks struck early. Defenseman Ryan Palmer sent a pass to the left circle where forward Neil Clark kicked a pass in front for forward Jeff Genovy who shoveled it home at 1:35. It was his fifth of the season. The Rayz tied it as forward Derrick McIver scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 11:03.
The Bucks again took the lead in the third period, this time on a power play chance. Rookie forward Bobby Chaumont calmly took a pass in front then shifted from the forehand to the backhand and slid the puck in the net at 4:51. The Rayz tied it as forward Jason Baird cut down the right wing and scored on a terrific wrist shot high glove side at 10:08.
The game headed to overtime. Thomas cut down the right wing into the Rayz zone and was tugged down, with the puck loose Rivet swooped it up and let go a backhander from the bottom of the right circle that went in five hole into the net for the game winner at 4:01. It was his 11th of the season. FINAL SCORE Laredo 5, Corpus Christi 4 sudden death.
Kevin Reiter stopped 22 of 26 shots and got the win to improve to 2-1-1. Brent Zelenewich allowed five goals on 41 shots and fell to 4-4-2. Laredo was 1-4 on the power play, while Corpus Christi was 0-2. The Bucks out shot the Rayz 41-26.

2006-07 BUCKS SINGLE GAME TICKETS ON SALE
