Colon Impressive in Captains Win

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (11-11, 42-49) used a four run seventh inning to defeat the Beloit Snappers (10-12, 49-43) by a final of 5-2. The Captains had three hits in the inning and the big hit was a ground rule double by Francisco Lindor. The double gave the Captains a 2-1 lead and put runners on second and third base. Jordan Smith then singled home both runners and the lead was 4-1 Lake County. Lake County added their final run when Bryson Myles hit a fielders choice which scored Jordan Smith from third and the score was 5-1 Captains headed to the eighth inning.

Beloit got on the scoreboard first. In the top of the third inning, Wang-Wei Lin singled and so did Steven Wickens to put two runners on base. A fly ball to center moved Lin to third base. With runners on the corners, A.J. Pettersen hit a bunt single to second base just past the pitcher's mound and Lin scored from third base and the score was 1-0 Beloit.

Lake County tied the ballgame in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Todd Hankins began the inning with a single and then promptly stole second base. With Hankins on third base, Zach MacPhee singled home Hankins and the score was tied 1-1.

Beloit got another run on the board in the top of the eighth inning. J. D. Williams was on first base and moved to second base on a wild pitch. He scored on a double by Miguel Sano and the Snappers cut the lead to 5-2 heading to the ninth inning.

Joe Colon (8-8, 2.90) started the game for the Captains and earned the win. Colon pitched seven innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, one walk and two strikeouts. Louis Head pitched the final two innings for the Captains and allowed two hits, one earned run, one walk and one strikeout.

David Hurlbut (3-3, 2.58) got the start for Beloit and took the loss. Hurlbut pitched six and one third innings allowing ten hits, five earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts. Tim Altherton relieved Hurlbut and went the final one and two thirds allowing one walk and he struck out two.

Sunday is a special 7 PM start and will feature a post-game fireworks extravaganza presented by Discount Drug Mart. It is also Family Fun Day and will feature a pre-game player autograph session, expanded in-stadium entertainment and activities, an enhanced Kids' Zone area with new inflatables including a new speed pitch and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game.

Sunday is a Faith Night, presented by 95.5 FM the FISH and is also the Captains' Annual Pre-Game Mass led by Father Bob Stec and Father Andy Turner from THE FEST! The Mass begins at 5 PM and fans who tell the Box Office that they are attending the Mass and receive a special $9 ticket price. There will be a post-game Testimony of Faith by former Cleveland Indians star, and current Indians Infield Coordinator, Travis Fryman

The Beloit Snappers will send LHP Ryan O'Rourke (2-4, 5.04) to the mound to start the ballgame against the Captains. Lake County will counter with LHP Elvis Araujo (3-7, 4.86). Araujo will be pitching on his 21st birthday. Game Time is 7:00 PM
