GENEVA, IL - Justin Trapp's 3-for-5 performance at the plate, which included a towering lead-off home run to left field in the fifth inning, would prove to be enough for the Kane County Cougars as the home team grabbed game one of the three game series, 6-4, Saturday evening at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Bryan Brickhouse earned his second victory, striking out six in the process. Mike Giovenco, in his first appearance since returning from the disabled list, pitched a scoreless inning while Jason Mitchell picked up his second save of the season by throwing a pair of scoreless innings.

The Cougars grabbed an early 3-0 advantage with back-to-back singles from Trapp and Tim Ferguson to open the third inning. A fielding error by the Whitecaps left fielder, Jason Krizan would plate Ferguson following Trapp's hit and Trapp would later score on a two run home run from Jorge Bonifacio.

After West Michigan crept within a run as St. Charles native Jeff Holm drove in a pair of runs with a fifth inning single, Kane County answered with Trapp's round-tripper and with what proved to be the winning run as Jack Lopez, who had reached on a single, scampered home after a pair of West Michigan errors. Kane County's final tally came in the very next inning as Trapp, again, collected an RBI as his infield single scored Dean Espy.

Trapp would finish with a pair of RBI's and a pair of runs scored to lead the Cougars.

Game two of the series is scheduled for a 5 PM first pitch on Sunday afternoon as RHP Kyle Smith (0-0, 3.00) opposes the Whitecaps' Tommy Collier.
