Burlington Bees News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa - The Burlington Bees (43-48, 11-11) relinquished two leads in the middle in- nings and lost 8-to-7 to the Dayton Dragons (39-52, 9-13) on Saturday. After winning four consecutive games to open the second half, the Bees have now lost their last four games and own a five hundred record.
The Bees have also lost the opening contest of their last six series and are only 6-9 against teams from the Eastern Division this season. They have eight more games against teams from the East in the next nine days.
The game got off to a good start for the Bees, as they were able to string together three extra-base hits to start the bottom of the first. Sean Jamieson hit a triple, and Chih-Fang Pan and Eliezer Mesa hit RBI doubles that scored Jamieson and Pan. The gained an early 2-to-0 lead after the first inning.
Chris Lamb made his second start with the Bees and first at Community Field this season and started the game with a strikeout. Lamb looked fine through first four innings and only allowed one run to score in the top of the second.
But much like his previous start when he last 4.1, Lamb labored in the fifth inning and left the game with two runners on and only two outs. Drew Tyson came on and finished the fifth, but not before he allowed one of Lamb's runners to score. The score was tied 3-to-3 after the top of the fifth inning.
Lamb (0-0) pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three hits and three runs (two earned). He also struck out four and only walked one.
The Bees scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth after Jamieson led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Pan. Pan eventually scored on a sacrifice fly ball from Rashun Dixon. Pan finished the night with three hits in five at bats including two doubles, runs and RBIs. Jamieson also had a good night and went 2-for- 5 with a triple, double, and two runs.
Unfortunately Drew Tyson - who came into the game with a 2.50 ERA - couldn't put away batters in the top of the sixth and eventually allowed three runs to score. The game drifted away from the Bees and not even Aaron Shipman's RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth was enough to bring the Bees back.
The Bees will try to even the series at one win a piece on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when Drew Granier (10- 5) takes the hill.
