
Hawks Upended by LumberKings

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
The South Bend Silver Hawks (46-46, 11-11) jumped out to a 2-0 lead Saturday before falling 5-3 to the Clinton LumberKings in the first game of an interdivision series at Ashford University Field in Clinton, Iowa. The Silver Hawks are 1-3 on their current six-game road swing.
Jordan Pries (1-0) earned his first win for the LumberKings, tossing 6.1 innings of two-run, four-hit baseball. The right-hander walked one and struck out three. J.R. Bradley (6-6) was saddled with the loss for the Silver Hawks. The right-hander allowed five runs - four earned - on 11 hits over 5.2 innings.
The Silver Hawks stormed out to a 2-0 lead after three innings. Matt Helm hit an RBI single in the first inning and Ryan Court extended his hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI single in the third inning.
Chris Ellison finished 2-for-4 with a walk and scored all three of the Silver Hawks runs.
The LumberKings scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. Ji-Man Choi finished 3-for-5 with a two-run double that knocked J.R. Bradley out of the game in the sixth inning.
The Silver Hawks pulled closer on an RBI base hit from Helm in the eighth inning. The Silver Hawks threatened further in the eighth and loaded the bases with one out before Stephen Shackleford came in to record the final two outs of the inning. Shackleford worked a perfect ninth inning and earned his sixth save.
Rigth-hander Jesse Darrah struck out three over 2.1 scoreless innings out of the Silver Hawks bullpen.
The Silver Hawks and LumberKings continue the three-game series Sunday at Ashford University Field. First pitch is on tap for 3:05 p.m. EST. Right-hander Alex Capaul (1-1, 5.94) gets the ball for South Bend. Right-hander Robert Shore (1-2, 3.38) starts for the LumberKings.
