Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON)- The Peterborough Petes announced the signing of Cole Fraser to a Standard Player Agreement and scholarship package on Monday afternoon in a press conference at Kawartha Food Share. The Petes selected Fraser in the third round, fiftieth overall in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection in April.
Born on April 23, 1999, Fraser is a 6'2", 192lbs right-handed defenceman who played for the Ottawa Valley Titans Minor Midget AAA squad during the 2014/15 season. In 29 games with the Titans, he recorded 7 goals, 11 assists, 18 points and 62 penalty minutes.
"Our scouts were very impressed by Cole's size and physical strength," noted Petes GM Mike Oke. "He reminds us of many of the great defenceman that have patrolled the Peterborough Memorial Centre blue lines in years past, and we know he will bring toughness and hard work to our team."
The Smiths Falls, Ontario native played for Team HEO at the OHL Gold Cup, the first stage in Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence. Fraser had a strong tournament defensively and recorded an assist and 4 PIMs in five games.
"I can't wait to start my career with the Petes and I'm looking forward to playing in the OHL and also working hard in the Peterborough community," said Fraser. "Ten years ago I saw the Petes play the 67's when I was at the Liftlock Atom Tournament, and I never would have imagined I'd one day play for the Petes."
Kawartha Food Share recently completed yet another successful city-wide food drive program, which the Petes were proud to support through donations collected at Morello's Independent. To support Kawartha Food Share, fans are encouraged to visit their donation page.
Fans can look forward to seeing Fraser and other Petes prospects and players at the 2015 Training Camp, which kicks off in early September. The 2015/16 season marks the Petes' 60th OHL campaign. With a strong group of returning players and an excellent rookie contingent, this season is set to be one of the most exciting in memory.
