Cody Regis RBI Double in the Ninth Gives Rawhide Walk-Off Win

VISALIA, CA - Cody Regis, with one out in the ninth, slapped an RBI double into the right-centerfield gap giving the Rawhide (6-1, 6-1) a walk-off 7-6 win on Opening Night at Recreation Ballpark over the Bakersfield Blaze (2-5, 2-5).

A back and forth affair that saw each team score a run in the first inning tilted towards the Blaze after DH Kyle Petty and 1B Jay Baum both went deep off "Hide starter RHP Miller Diaz to push the lead to 3-1 Bakersfield.

Visalia inked an unearned run in the fourth inning when LF Grant Heyman reached on an error and scored on C Tyler Baker's RBI walk to make it 3-2 Bakersfield.

The Blaze scored an unearned run against Visalia in the fifth after a couple of base hits and an error on CF Victor Reyes to regain a two run advantage at 4-2.

Diaz pitched 5.1 innings, allowing nine hits, six runs (four earned), he walked four and struck out four. Blaze starter RHP Tyler Herb logged 5.1 innings and he gave up two unearned runs on four hits, a walk and he struck out nine. Neither starter factored in the decision.

Diaz's began the sixth but ultimately didn't survive the frame after recording the first out and then allowing a double followed by an infield single.

Manager J.R House went to his bullpen and RHP Bud Jeter emerged. SS Drew Jackson hit a sacrifice fly pushing the lead to 5-2 and CF Austin Cousino slapped an RBI double to make it 6-1 Blaze. Both of those final runs were charged to Diaz's line.

The comeback began in the bottom of the seventh for Visalia against RHP Cody Kerski, The first four men of the inning reached base safely for Visalia on two walks and two singles. Baker, who began the inning with a walk, came home on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 6-3 and the bases were still loaded. Bakersfield went to the bullpen again and brought in RHP Aaron Brooks to face lefty DH Rudy Flores. Flores hit an RBI groundout and the score was 6-4 Blaze. Heyman was the next one up and hit a hopper that scooted through the shortstop Jackson's legs and allowed the two tying runs to score in the seventh.

RHP Luis Ramirez (2-0, 0.00) came into the game and pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win. For Bakersfield RHP Ramon Morla (0-1) entered for the ninth and was the victim of 1B Cody Regis's game winning, RBI double.

Visalia and Bakersfield continue their four game series tonight at Recreation Ballpark with a 7:15 p.m. first pitch. On the mound is RHP Brad Keller (0-0, 1.50), who starts for Visalia against LHP Tyler Pike (0-0, 0.00) for Bakersfield.
