Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks fell behind early and could never recover, as they dropped their home opener to the High Desert Mavericks, 8-4, on Thursday night at The Hangar.

The Mavericks (6-2) scored three runs in the second inning, as the first four reached in the frame against Lancaster starter Elieser Hernandez (0-1). The JetHawks (2-3) responded with a pair in the bottom half when Kristian Trompiz delivered a two-out two-run single with the bases loaded.

After High Desert put up single runs in the fourth and fifth, the JetHawks came back with two in the sixth to creep to within a run once again. Jamie Ritchie hit an RBI double the other way into right-center field and Jose Fernandez drew a bases loaded walk. However, the JetHawks left the bases loaded for the first of three times on the night. In total, Lancaster left 13 on base and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

High Desert added a couple of insurance runs in the ninth on a two-run homer off the bat of Tripp Martin. Lancaster loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the frame, but pinch hitter Garrett Stubbs grounded out to first to end the game.

Ariel Jurado (1-0) earned the win for High Desert, striking out five over five innings of work. Hernandez took the loss for the JetHawks.

The JetHawks and Mavericks continue their four-game series tomorrow night at The Hangar. Dean Deetz (0-0) will start for Lancaster against Colin Wiles (0-0). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
