Delaware Blue Coats News Release
WILMINGTON - The Delaware Blue Coats (15-6) defeated the Motor City Cruise (11-11) by a score of 119-116. The Blue Coats have played three games in the last four days and won each contests, increasing their separation at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
"Fatigue played a part," Jarron Cumberland said. "We know [we're shorthanded], and we have our roles to play. We have to come in and not play out of character."
Throughout the game Delaware was able to get extra opportunities from the defensive end of the floor, forcing 23 turnovers. Cumberland led the way on the defensive end with eight steals.
The Blue Coats also got a big contribution from Jared Brownridge, scoring a personal season-high and team-high 24 points, including 7-13 shooting from three. Terquavion Smith also had strong game for the Blue Coats finishing with 23 points and a team-high seven assists. The starting five of Smith, Brownridge, Kenneth Lofton Jr. (23) Cumberland (20) and Melvin Frazier Jr. (18) all scored in double figures for the Blue Coats.
The Cruise got a big boost from the team's leading scorer Stanley Umude. Umude had a game-high 33 points. Jarren Rhodes was right behind Umude in scoring with 29 points of his own. Zavier Simpson (19), Buddy Boheim (14), and Devon Higgs (10) finished with double digits for Motor City.
Delaware now hits the road to Greensboro, where the team takes on the Swarm on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
