Santa Cruz Warriors Drop Second Straight Game to Raptors 905

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (11-9) dropped the second game in the team's back-to-back series against the Raptors 905 (8-14), 118-112, on Saturday evening at Kaiser Permanente Arena in overtime.

The Warriors were led by guard Kendric Davis with 35 points and six assists. Forward Javan Johnson notched 18 points and six rebounds, and guard Yuri Collins added 16 points and eight assists. Guard Armon Fletcher came off the bench in his second game with Santa Cruz to contribute 12 points and nine rebounds.

Two-way guard Javon Freeman-Liberty led the Raptors 905 with 36 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Forward Kevin Obanor scored 17 points off the bench, and forward Mouhamadou Gueye followed closely with 16 points and nine rebounds. Two-way forward Jontay Porter rounded out the offensive effort with 13 points, 17 rebounds, and nine assists.

The Raptors 905 opened the contest with a 10-0 run before the Sea Dubs responded with seven unanswered points of their own. However, the visitors once again went on an offensive run to end the frame with a 37-20 lead. Forward Gui Santos, on assignment from Golden State, kicked off the second quarter with a three-pointer and ignited the Sea Dubs offense, closing the deficit to 39-30 with 10:15 remaining in the frame. The Warriors continued to chip away at the 905 lead to end the half with a 64-57 deficit.

11 points from Davis in the third quarter helped the Warriors close the gap to just two points, heading into the final frame trailing 90-88. Santa Cruz's Johnson scored the first bucket of the fourth quarter with a dunk to tie the game at 90. A trip to the charity stripe for Davis helped the Sea Dubs secure their first advantage of the game, 94-92. Both teams battled down the stretch until a three-point shot from Johnson gave the Warriors a one-point lead, 110-109, with 26.5 seconds remaining in the contest. The Raptors quickly tied the game at the free throw line and sent the game into overtime. Made free throws on three straight possessions from the 905 helped the visitors secure a 118-112 overtime win.

The Santa Cruz Warriors will next face the Oklahoma City Blue in a back-to-back series on Wednesday, February 28 at 9 a.m. (PT) and Thursday, February 29 at 5 p.m. (PT) to kick off a five-game road trip. The Sea Dubs return to the Bay Area on Sunday, March 10 to host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors, at 12:30 p.m. (PT).
