Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY -- Stefan Noesen's goal was the only scoring as the Albany Devils lost to the Norfolk Admirals, 1-0, Wednesday at Times Union Center. Devils netminder Scott Clemmensen made 25 saves, while his counterpart Jason LeBarbera had 35 stops.
Noesen's goal came at 16:54 of the second period came with a touch of controversy. His wraparound attempt was stopped by the right pad of Clemmensen, but as a mass of humanity surrounded the net, the puck slipped over the line. Immediately, Clemmensen and his teammates made an argument against the goal.
"I actually got my pad in front of it, got the puck covered, had it for a second or maybe two seconds, and then they pushed me in the net," Clemmensen said. To me that's an illegitimate goal."
After a video review the goal stood.
"He was on the complete other side of the net," Kowalsky said of Noesen. "I'm not sure why there wasn't a whistle. He skated all the way around from one side to the other. Clemmensen had his pad on the post and the guy just kept jamming away. But we need to score goals like that."
Albany pressured early, outshooting Norfolk 14-7 during the first period. Darcy Zajac came the closest to spoiling LaBarbera's shutout when he dinged the post shortside midway through the opening frame on a two-on-one.
Clemmensen continued his stellar play during the month of March. He has allowed just five goals in four appearances, going 1-1-1 with a 1.44 goals against average and a .947 save percentage.
"There was 60 minutes out there and we've got to find a way regardless of what happens," Clemmensen said. "Missed calls or made calls or things of that nature, we've still got to find a way, put it on ourselves to win."
The loss moves the Devils to 27-25-5-6, while the Admirals improve to 23-32-5-3.
