LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jesse Beal shut down the BlueClaws through seven innings, as Lakewood dropped their second game in a row 5-1 to the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles) Thursday night.

Beal (6-5), who turns 20 on Monday, celebrated his birthday a bit early by dominating the BlueClaws (10-4, 52-32) through seven.

Beal let up seven hits, but just one run in the first on a Carlos Ruiz RBI double. The Phillies catcher made the first of two rehab starts with the BlueClaws on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.

With the Claws leading 1-0 Delmarva (7-7, 39-45) tied the score in the fourth without getting a hit. Brian Conley was hit by a Josh Zeid (5-3) pitch to lead off the inning, becoming the first runner to reach against Zeid. Conley then stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Delmarva finally figured out Zeid in the sixth. Michael Mooney broke up a no-hitter with a lead-off single, and with one out Ty Kelly and Tyler Townsend singled to load the bases. Kieron Pope then brought in a run with a single to put the Shorebirds up 2-1.

That was the end of Zeid's evening. He went 5 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on three hits.

Luke Wertz came in to relieve Zeid, and gave up a sacrifice fly to Steve Bumbry to make it a 3-1 game before ending the inning with a strikeout.

Delmarva added to their lead in the ninth on a two-run blast to left by Garabez Rosa to push their lead to 5-1.

RHP Brody Colvin (5-6, 4.09) starts for Lakewood on Friday night at 7:05 pm. He is 3-1, 1.86 over his last nine starts, dating to May 17th. He'll be opposed by Shorebirds RHP Pat Kantakevich (0-2, 3.70).
