AUGUSTA, GA - With first and third, one out in the ninth inning, a double play ball in a 5-4 game ended the Kannapolis Intimidators hopes to win game one of a five game series against the Augusta GreenJackets on Thursday night.

In the ninth at 5-4, Miguel Gonzalez led off the inning with a bloop single to right and Mike Richard, pinch running, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt with one down. Daniel Wagner walked on a wild pitch, advancing Richard to third and bringing Zach Kayne to the plate. On a two-strike pitch, Kayne chopped one to third and the double play was turned superbly with Chris Dominguez feeding Ryan Cavan who hung in to make a great throw to firs to end the game. Jose Castilla picked up the save as he worked the final four outs of the ballgame.

Off first round pick Zach Wheeler in the first, Kayne singled and scored on a triple by Colligan to take a 1-0 lead. Andy Reichard would then start the second inning and pitch into the eighth.

For the Intimidators (5-10), Matt Hopps started and pitched tremendous through five, allowing just one run on back-to-back hits in the third and after a solo home run by Kyle Colligan the Intimidators had a 2-1 lead in the sixth.

However, in the bottom of the inning, Hopps (1-7) walked two to lead off the inning, followed by an error to load the bases. A sacrifice fly tied the game at two and a two-run double off relief pitcher JR Ballinger gave the GreenJackets (8-7) a 4-2 lead.

In the seventh, in his Intimidators debut, Ryan Hamme hit a solo home run to make it a 4-3 game, but in the bottom half on a walk and two more errors, the Intimidators went down to 5-3.

The Intimidators got a two-out RBI-double from Nick Ciolli off Jose Castilla in the eighth, but it was not enough as the Intimidators lost 5-4.

Reichard went 6.2 innings in his first win of the season and the Intimidators fall for the fifth time in six games in the second half to the GreenJackets.

On Friday, Cameron Bayne will look for his seventh win of the season for Kannapolis and he will be opposed by Jeremy Toole at a 7:05 pm first pitch.
