
Clark pitches six shutout innings in Aberdeen win

Billy Rowell and Brandon Tripp each had three hits and Zach Clark pitched six shutout innings in his IronBirds' debut as Aberdeen beat Oneonta, 6-3, at Damaschke Field, Wednesday night.
The win moved Aberdeen to within a half-game of wild-card leading Oneonta. Oneonta is 36-30 while Aberdeen is 36-31. Brooklyn, which lost at Tri-City in the bottom of the 9th, is one game back of Oneonta, at 35-31.
Clark, a UMBC product, pitched six scoreless allowing seven singles. He got double play balls to end the second and fourth innings and picked up 14 of his 18 outs on grounders. He was 5-4 2.11 in 13 starts with Bluefield. His strong outing came vs. an Oneonta team that is first in the league in batting and second in runs.
Danny Figueroa's RBI single in the third scored Tripp, who had doubled, for a 1-0 lead. Aberdeen added two runs in the fourth on two hits, including a Matt Pulley RBI single, and two errors.
Rowell ripped an RBI double to right in the 5th for his third hit of the night and first IronBirds' RBI. Tripp's solo homer in the 8th was his third hit and gave Aberdeen a 6-0 lead.
Brent Allar, in his first IronBirds outing, walked four in the last of the 9th as Oneonta scored three runs to make the final 6-3. Bob McCrory had shuout Oneonta in the 7th and 8th frames.
NOTES --- Rowell is now 5-12 in his first three IronBirds' games......Tripp's homer was his second and his three-hit night ended a 2-20 slide.............Aberdeen has now won 12 of its last 18 games and is 20-15 on the road...........Josh Tamba (5-3 2.97) is Aberdeen's due starter on Thursday in game two of this big series at 7pm........listen on radio on AM 970-WAMD or on the net at ironbirdsbaseball.com.
