Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

CLINTON, IA - Trent Clark drove in both runs of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-1 victory over the Clinton LumberKings Thursday night at Ashford University Field. Clark broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out RBI single in the top of the eighth and reliever Corbin Burnes came up with some big outs to close out the LumberKings.

The Timber Rattlers (51-52 overall, 17-16 second half) broke through in the top of the sixth inning. Troy Stokes, Jr., who had two hits and a walk in the leadoff spot on Thursday, singled with one out and stole second. Clark, who came off the disabled list on July 25, followed with a single down the line in left to drive in Stokes and the Rattlers were up 1-0.

That was the only run Wisconsin scored off Clinton starting pitcher Luiz Gohara. The lefty walked one and struck out ten over six innings while allowing four hits.

Wisconsin starter Zack Brown struck out six over without a walk over five scoreless innings and was in line for the win. But, Clinton had a different idea.

Rayder Ascanio reached on an error to start their half of the sixth inning against reliever Nate Griep. Then, Dalton Kelly singled to center and Ascanio took third. Alex Jackson's flyball to center was deep enough to score Ascanio with the tying run.

The Rattlers went back in front in the top of the eighth inning against Clinton reliever Dylan Silva and it took a two-out rally to do the job. Juan Ortiz and Stokes drew consecutive walks with two away. Clark delivered a single to center and Ortiz raced home with the go-ahead run.

Clinton (62-41, 23-10) made it interesting over the final two innings against reliever Burnes. Ascanio bunted with one out in the bottom of the eighth and raced to third on a poor throw to put the tying run just 90 feet from home plate. Burnes bounced back to strike out Kelly and Jackson to end the inning and keep the Rattlers up by a run.

In the ninth, Burnes walked the leadoff batter, but got the next hitter to ground into a 4-6-3 double play. Burnes sealed the win with a strikeout to end the game. Both teams have won a game in the first two days of this series.

The final game of the series is Friday night. Devin Williams (6-2, 3.63) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Pablo Lopez (5-0, 2.03) is set to start for the LumberKings. Game time is 6:30pm.

The radio broadcast is on 1280 AM, WNAM starting with the pregame show at 6:10pm. The game is also available on the internet through IHeartRadio and TuneIn.
