Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Dexture McCall homered in the ninth to force extra innings and Kristian Trompiz singled home Myles Straw in the 11th inning as the Quad Cities River Bandits walked off an 8-7 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Thursday night in front of 4,252 fans at Modern Woodmen Park. McCall became the first Bandit to homer twice in a game this year while Straw went 4-for-5 and scored three runs. Quad Cities crushed four homers in the game, a season-high.

Straw led off the bottom of the 11th with a triple to right-center. Trompiz bounced a single over short to score Straw and send the Bandits (18-15, 49-53) to the 8-7 win over Peoria (15-17, 55-47).

Quad Cities cut into the Peoria lead in the eighth when Anthony Hermelyn worked a lead-off walk and later scored on a double from Straw to make it a 7-6 game. McCall's ninth-inning blast tied the game 7-7 and forced extra baseball.

A five-run fourth inning, fueled by some controversy, helped Peoria come back from a 5-1 hole. Two walks and an error loaded the bases for the Chiefs with two outs. Magneuris Sierra unloaded the bases with a double to make it a one-run game. After a walk put two on, Dylan Tice lined one down the left field line that was ruled fair by home plate umpire Isaias Barba and scored two on a double to give Peoria the lead, 6-5. Bandits' manager Omar Lopez was ejected from the game by Barba, arguing that the ball was foul.

The Bandits took a 3-0 behind two long balls in the first inning. Straw led off with a single and Trompiz followed with his second home run of the season. McCall crushed a 420-foot home run to put Quad Cities on top 3-0.

Peoria got on the board in the second with a solo-homer from Leo Pina to make it a 3-1 game, but the Bandits responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Hector Roa knocked home run, his third of the season, to counter Pina's blast and Straw scored on a bases loaded walk to McCall to give Quad Cities a 5-1 advantage.

Peoria added an insurance run in the sixth inning. Tice led off with a walk and later scored on a fielder's choice from Pina to push Peoria's lead to two, 7-5.

Matt Bower gave up six runs, but just one earned, over 3.2 innings on five hits and four walks while striking out four in a no decision for Quad Cities. David Schmidt struck out a career-high six batters in a 3.1 inning relief outing. The righty gave up just two hits in the scoreless effort. Ralph Garza (4-4) took the win, tossing two scoreless innings while striking out two.

Peoria starter Juan Perez did not factor into the decision, leaving the game after 1.2 innings with an apparent injury. The righty gave up five runs on six hits and three walks. Steven De La Cruz blew his sixth save of the year, allowing the runs in the eighth and ninth. Steven Gallardo (1-2) dropped the decision, allowing the walk-off hit in the 11th.

Quad Cities sends RHP Elieser Hernandez (4-2, 2.05) to the mound in the series finale on Friday. Peoria counters with RHP Derian Gonzalez (4-0, 2.64) in the 7:00 p.m. rubber match. You can catch the broadcast with Jake Levy and Lance Ragland, starting with the LLOYD Agencies Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app.
