Bees Down Snappers, Win Second Straight

Burlington, IA - A bases loaded walk in the fifth inning was the difference in a 3-2 win for the Burlington Bees (50-53) over the Beloit Snappers (46-56) on Thursday night at Community Field.

Just like in game one, the Bees put two runs on the board with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Brennon Lund got it started by drawing a two out walk. After Lund stole second base, Jordan Zimmerman walked, putting runners at first and second base. Brendon Sanger lined a single into right field, scoring Lund and then Zimmerman, thanks to an errant throw, giving the Bees a 2-0 lead.

Beloit cut the Bees' lead to one run in the fifth inning. JC Rodriguez started the inning with a double and then scored on a Jordan Devencenzi single, making the score 2-1.

The Bees went on to add an important run in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Angelo Amendolare singled and then moved to second when Troy Montgomery singled to left. Matt Thaiss then reached on an error, loading the bases. After a strike out, Jordan Zimmerman worked a walk, scoring Amendolare, upping the Bees' lead to 3-1.

The Bees needed that third run as Beloit went on to score a run in the seventh, but Aaron Cox came on to work two scoreless inning, securing the win, earning his second save of the season. Jose Rodriguez (5-5) earned the win while Dustin Hurlbutt (2-2) was charged with the loss. The Bees and Snappers finish the series on Friday night at 6:30 when Luis Pena takes the mound for the Bees against Boomer Biegalski for Beloit at 6:30.
