City Takes Second Loss of Season, Falls to Rochester 2-0

June 13, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release

Rochester, NY -- On the road at Sahlen's Stadium, Louisville City FC (5-2-5, 20 points) played even with the undefeated Rochester Rhinos (8-0-4, 28 points) for most of the match, but a couple of defensive miscues was all it took for City to suffer their second loss of the season.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 43rd minute as Rochester's Onua Thomas Obasi beat the Louisville defense to the endline and sent in a low cross. The ball was only half-cleared by Austen King and found Richmond forward Steevan "Duba" dos Santos whose volley found the back of the net for the opening goal.

The best Louisville chance of the first half came just minutes before the Rochester goal due in large part to Matt Fondy. The Lou City captain fought off two Rochester defenders on the edge of the penalty area to find Chicago Fire loanee Collin Fernandez just outside the six yard box. Fernandez's shot forced an excellent save from Rochester keeper Brandon Miller.

Rochester doubled its lead in the 67th minute. A shot by Christian Volesky forced a reaction save from Louisville keeper Scott Goodwin, but the rebound was turned into the back of the net by dos Santos for his second goal of the night and Louisville's first two-goal deficit of the season.

Despite lumping multiple balls forward at the end of the match, Louisville failed to score in league play for only the second time this season. The club will travel to Chicago for a U.S. Open Cup tilt on Tuesday at Toyota Park. City will return home on Saturday, June 20th for a matchup with the New York Red Bulls II.
